Company History

Axmen got its start in spring 1973, when Bud Hanson sold his hardware store in Ronan and moved to Missoula with his two sons to open a shop of his own. Right as the oil embargo had every household in western Montana rethinking how they heated their homes, so wood stoves became the founding product. More than fifty years and three generations of the Hanson family later, the same plainspoken philosophy still guides the business: sell people what they actually need, and point them elsewhere if you can't. What began at that first wood-stove counter has grown into a full heating, hot tub, and backup-power operation that still carries an A+ rating with the Better Business Bureau.
