Costello’s Hearth & Spa / Smithtown, NY

The Costello family's retail story started in 1976, when Vincent Costello took over a struggling 2,000-square-foot hardware store in Deer Park, determined to make it work for his wife and ten kids. That grind paid off: a second store, then a third, then a flagship home center six of his children opened in 2001. Today the family's hearth and hot tub division has grown out of that same hustle. It absorbed the old Long Island Hot Tub Warehouse and carries its local roots forward as Costello's Hearth & Spa.

You're really walking into two showrooms in one: a working lineup of gas, wood, and pellet fireplaces from names like Harman, Heat & Glo, and Vermont Castings on one side, and a lineup of Bullfrog and Tropic Seas hot tubs, swim spas, and even a cold plunge tub on the other. It's set up so you can actually picture the fireplace you'll sit in front of and the spa you'll soak in after a long week. Staff walk you through spa care chemicals and accessories on the spot, so there's no guessing what you'll need to bring it home and keep it running.
