When a local HVAC company in nearby Pakenham closed its doors, Friendly Fires saw a gap in the Lanark County market, and good tradespeople who needed work. They opened this Carleton Place showroom to keep them going. That decision says a lot about the company: 20+ years in the hearth and outdoor living business, a fleet of licensed gas fitters, and a 2017 TSSA Safety Award earned by putting safety ahead of speed on every install.

Company History

Friendly Fires opened its doors in Peterborough more than 20 years ago, and the Carleton Place showroom, its fourth Ontario location, arrived in 2015 under circumstances that say a lot about how the company operates. When a local HVAC business in Pakenham shut down, co-owners including Alex Soubliere chose to open here rather than let skilled tradespeople go without work. They took over Valley Plaza, a stretch of Highway 7 that had sat empty for years, and spent twelve straight weeks gutting and rebuilding it with local contractors before opening what staff still call one of the nicest showrooms in the company.

It's hard to picture, standing in the Carleton Place showroom today, that this space was once a boarded-up stretch of a dead strip mall. Friendly Fires gutted it and rebuilt it into a bright, working showroom. Today, it’s stocked with a full line of outdoor products, including BBQs, smokers, outdoor fireplaces, and fire rooms. A large collection of wood, gas, pellet, and electric fireplaces, stoves, and inserts fills the space, along with replacement parts and accessories to keep them all running.
