It’s all about the BTU’s! The more BTU’s, the more heat you’ll enjoy. And, this is easily controlled by how fast the pellets are burned. The faster the burn rate, the more BTU’s are produced. The more fuel you’re using, the more heat you’re getting. Your pellet stove or insert will have a range of BTU output. 10,000 – 40,000 BTU’s/hour is not uncommon. In late fall and early spring, it’s likely that less BTU/hour will keep you comfortable. In the middle of January with the wind howling in northern Wisconsin, you going to need more. Based on the amount of space you’re heating and by experimenting a bit, you’ll quickly figure out where to set the burn rate on your appliance. If your stove is set up with a thermostat, the thermostat will automatically adjust the burn rate to maintain the set point temperature.
