Where To Find Fireplace Parts?

Order Replacement Parts Online!

Depending on the age of the fireplace, the specific model of the fireplace and the manufacturer of the equipment, it normally isn’t too difficult to find replacement or updated parts for your unit.  The question of where to find parts comes up periodically.  It’s always best to start at your local fireplace expert, your nearby We Love Fire dealer when you’re looking for replacement components for your fireplace.

What Parts Would Need Replacing On My Fireplace?

There are not many parts on a wood burning fireplace that might need replacing.  However, the blower fan is the first component that comes to mind.  Most blower fans on fireplaces are small squirrel cage fans that move air through a convective air chamber.  These are specially designed fans that can withstand high temperatures.  As the air from the room is being moved through this hot space, the air is warmed by the heat from the fire and is blown back into the room.  If this fan starts squealing or squeaking, it’s probably time to replace it.  These fans come in different sizes.  For example, the length, height and diameter are different from model to model.  Again, it’s important to know the model and manufacturer of your fireplace.

You can replace the fan yourself or your fireplace expert can assist you.  Be certain to follow the manufacturer’s installation directions.  Sometimes, physically getting to the space where the fan is located, can cause scraped knuckles, but an effective fireplace fan is well worth the effort.

Also, doors on fireplaces may need to be replace.  Or the glass on the doors may get broken.  Again, knowing the model and manufacturer of the fireplace is critical.

Regular Glass Vs. Tempered Glass

Tempered glass is considerably stronger than regular glass.  It’s the best and least expensive choice for replacing the glass in your open-burning or non-gasketed zero-clearance wood burning fireplace.  Tempered glass has a thermal shock rating of 400°F.

Ceramic Glass

Additionally, ceramic glass is much stronger than tempered glass.  It is the best option for replacing gasketed doors on fireplaces and wood burning stoves.  If your fireplace or stove doors came originally equipped with this type of glass, it is necessary to replace it with ceramic glass.  As a matter of fact, ceramic glass has a thermal shock rating of approximately 1300°F.

Replacement fireplace doors could be sourced from a couple of places.  The manufacturer will likely have replacement doors available for specific models.  An after-market supplier is the other source that will have several optional colors, styles and designs available is.

The after-market door option offers some beautiful choices that will give your fireplace a whole new look.  Furthermore, if you need to replace your fireplace doors, it would be a great time to upgrade.  New custom fireplace doors will give your living room an entirely different feel.

What About My Gas Fireplace?

Gas fireplaces have many more parts that can be replaced than a wood burning fireplace.  Adjustable gas valves, ignition systems, switches, fans, control boards and burner assemblies are just a few of the components on a direct vented gas fireplace.  All are available and replaceable from your fireplace expert’s service department.  You may think you have the knowledge and equipment to replace gas fireplace components yourself, but normally this is not a DIY project.

Although there are also on-line resources for these components, but be very careful.  There can be differences between manufacturer’s parts and even differences between models of the same brand.

At last, keep a file marked ‘fireplaces’ in your file cabinet.  And make sure the manufacturer, model number, purchase date, natural vs. LP gas and your dealers contact information is accurately recorded.  When it comes to replacing parts or repairing a gas fireplace, there is no room for error.

Good morning! Thanks for reaching out. We currently do not have a local expert in Las Vegas. Hopefully we do add a local expert in Vegas in the next little while! Stay Safe! Dominique

I live in a townhouse built on 1984. I recently decided to clean the gas fireplace. I removed the logs which looks like they need to be replaced and the lava rocks. What should I use to replace both? I'm not sure if it's vented or not as I have to turn it on with a key to ignite. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thank you.
    • Dominique Page
Hello Alyse, thanks for reaching out. IF you need to replace your logs, these have to come from the very same supplier who made your fireplace. Do you know the brand and model number? If so, it is possible that the replacement logs are still available. Take a picture of your fireplace and bring that information to a local fireplace store. They will tell you if replacement logs can be ordered. All the best! Dominique

We have a 25 year old gas insert that has a brass face and doors. Can this be removed and replaced with a different front . David
    • Dominique Page
Hi David. That is a good question. Some might suggest to paint the front with high heat paint if you wanted to go to a black finish. Otherwise, chances are that fronts for a 25-year old insert are no longer available. Hope that answers your question.

Hi , I have a Federal Airtight 264 ccl with a broken ( removed ) damper gate. Is it safe to still use the fireplace and will the combustor sill be effective ? many thanks
    • Joseph Bodden
John: Your Consolidated Dutchwest Federal wood burning stove is designed to give the best performance with the catalytic combustor engaged. This means routing the smoke through the combustor by engaging the damper. Our recommendation is to get the stove repaired ASAP. If you're a DIY'er, go to the owner's manual and find the exploded diagram of your stove. Part numbers should be listed on the same page(s). Order the needed parts from your dealer. Or, if you would prefer these repairs be professionally done, contact your dealer and discuss with them. Either way, do not operate the stove with a removed damper.

Good day, needing help finding heating element for an electric fireplace. Have you ever heard of a Intertek Electric fireplace which is the insert used in the product that was purchased at Costco. Model number #WU-31533BE or 4002881 . The fan blower is working, but it’s only blowing out cool air. Is there any way to fix or replace the part?
    • Joseph Bodden
Stephen: Thank you for spending time on WeLoveFire.com. Sorry to hear about your electric fireplace not heating. You're right in thinking it's likely the heating element. Intertek is not a manufacturer of these units. They are a testing and certification service. My best suggestion would be to talk with your local Costco store. They may be able to get you in touch with their buying people to see where this fireplace came from, who manufactured it and if any replacement parts might be available.

Hi, I'm new to fireplaces and have read the article, but I need clarification before making a purchase. Is there a ventless gas fireplace that emits heat and flames, utilizes ceramic stones, and maintains the aesthetic of a mantel?
    • Joseph Bodden
Hello Mac and thank you for your note. A “vent-free” or "ventless" gas fireplace is is a type of fireplace that does not need a venting system. The by-products from combustion are permitted to be vented into the room where the fireplace is located. An oxygen depletion sensor is designed to shut the equipment off if oxygen levels get too low. Since no heat is lost out of a vent pipe, this type of equipment is considered 100% efficient. Sounds great on first thought, right? But, keep in mind that the largest by-product from burning gas is water vapor. This can lead to serious issues with indoor air quality. There will likely be odors and significant moisture added to the inside air from vent-free equipment. Increased condensation on windows is common. Those sensitive with allergies or asthma may notice more difficulties. It is not uncommon for mold to develop on walls, ceilings or around windows and doors from all the excess moisture. The majority of hearth dealers will encourage you to vent a fireplace. Many don’t, or won’t carry vent-free equipment. Before purchasing a vent-free unit, check your local building codes. Vent-free fireplaces are not approved in Canada. And, there are many areas in the United States that do not allow installation of vent free equipment. Vent free gas fireplaces are finished the same way as a direct vented gas fireplace . . . with or without a mantle. And some have optional media choices, logs vs. stones vs. glass beads, etc. I hope this helps and I would encourage you to read [https://welovefire.com/fireplaces/all-about-gas-fireplaces-buying-advice/] and carefully weight the pro's and con's of vent free fireplaces. Good luck and please tell your friends and co-workers about WeLoveFire.com!
