Common sense goes a long way when it comes to heating devices. It doesn’t matter if it’s a forced air furnace, a wood burning fireplace or stove, a boiler system or for that matter the toaster in your kitchen! Properly installed, operated and regularly maintained equipment will avoid potentially dangerous scenarios. Do not install equipment you are not familiar with. One must be aware of the manufacturer’s requirements and all applicable codes to ensure a compliant installation.
Pellet stoves and inserts get very hot. Keep children away from the equipment. Exceed clearances to all combustibles. A minimum of 3 feet is a good rule to keep in mind. “More is always better” whenever we talk about clearances . . . . and whenever we talk about common sense, too!
