Fire will be featured in a number of ways in October. Americans will be flocking to barbecue events in hordes, but fire prevention will be a focus on both sides of the border, because it’s important to enjoy your passion safely!
Lynchburg (Tennessee)
Tennessee has been honoring its renowned whisky for almost 30 years now with the Jack Daniel’s World Championship Invitational BBQ. This prestigious competition, the 29th edition of which is being held on October 27th and 28th, will bring more than 100 teams together from various countries including Australia, Canada, Italy and Germany. The teams will vie for the title of Grand Champion in seven categories, including Jack Daniel’s Sauce. In addition to the barbecue championship, the event will feature live music, fun fames and many other activities. Some 25,000–30,000 attendees are expected.
Lexington (North Carolina)
Another event based on a long tradition is taking place on October 28th. The Lexington Barbecue Festival welcomes the public for its 34th year with amazing grilled meats, a 50-ton sand sculpture, concerts, kid zone, arts and crafts and much more.
A few other suggestions
The Beer, Bourbon & BBQ Festival is coming to Leesburg, Virginia on October 7th this year. Several other events are coming up in Texas, including the Smokin’ Blues & BBQ Festival in Duncanville on the 13th and 14th.
Fire Prevention Week
Americans and Canadians alike will stress the importance of fire prevention during a very special week, from October 8th to 14th. This year’s theme is “Every Second Counts: Plan 2 Ways Out!” or “La prévention, c'est bon! C’est dans la cuisine que ça se passe!” in Quebec. A number of activities and initiatives will be deployed to raise public awareness about the issue. For example, people will be encouraged to develop home fire escape plans and identify two possible exits for each occupant.
In the coming weeks we will be posting tips to minimize the potential fire hazards associated with stoves and fireplaces.
