If, like us, you love everything about fire and would like to take your passion beyond your own four walls, Canada and the United States have plenty of events where you can indulge. In August, there are several events on the calendar and we have lots to choose from!
Washington, Houston and Napa
Just like the Beer, Bourbon & BBQ Festival, various cities in United States take part in Cochon 555. Washington DC and Houston TX are hosting this festival on August 6 th and August 20th respectively. As the name suggests, five pigs are the big stars featured for the event. Five chefs and five winemakers are competing. This is designed to showcase how to make the most out of these animals. However, although these are gatherings for food lovers, not all events include a barbecue. So, if you want to enjoy succulent grilled meat, head over to Napa Valley in California on August 27th. During this special event, different types of animals will be cooked over open fires and dozens of chefs will attend.
The Ottawa and Whistler Regions
The Ottawa region will be in barbecue mode from August 4th to 6th when the Capital BBQ Festival takes place. Competitions (such as cooking chicken wings, pulled pork and ribs), demonstrations, music, grilled food and barbecue exhibitors will be part of the lineup for these three days of celebration. The small town of Carp will host this event, which takes place at the same time as the popular Carp Farmer's Market - another good reason to go there!
At the same time, people will be flocking to the Bulleit Bourbon Canadian National BBQ Championships at Whistler Creekside's Dusty's Bar & BBQ.
Virginia Beach and Saskatchewan
On August 12th, there are two events running at the same time. The Beer, Bourbon & BBQ Festival will continue its tour by visiting Virginia Beach. Then, there’ll be a barbecue competition during the Those Were The Days Summer Festival in North Battleford, Saskatchewan.
Stoney Creek, Indianapolis, Grainger and Upper Arlington
Did you miss July’s EGGFests? If so, you can catch up during the following month. On August 4th, celebrations get going in Louisville, Kentucky with the 9th Annual Kentuckiana EGGFest. The Upper Arlington, Ohio (The Ohio EGGFest) and The Stoney Creek, Ontario (Niagara EGGFest) events will be on August 12th and 13th respectively. The Grainger (Kabelin Ace EGGFest) and Indianapolis (Indy EGGFest) events in Indiana will both take place on August 26th.
Hope and Montreal
When we think of barbecues, we think of ribs, steak, chicken and other meats. But if you’d like to sample a different kind of barbecue, you will enjoy to Hope in British Columbia for salmon and seafood. The Great Fraser Salmon BBQ competition will be held on August 19th for the 3rd year running.
In Quebec’s metropolis, the Montreal Ribfest will kick off on August 18th for three days of barbecues and music. If you attend this event in Pierrefonds, you’ll be contributing to a good cause as the funds raised will be given to Big Brothers Big Sisters of the West Island. Over 30,000 participants are expected to attend.
